A Philadelphia branch of PNC Bank, using a high-tech GPS tracking device, helped police catch a bank robber yesterday.
Philadelphia police quickly apprehended the suspect, a woman, who is said to be in her 40’s.
The female suspect is accused of handing a demand note to a teller at the PNC Bank branch in the 602 block of South Washington Square just after 8 a.m.
Police say the teller gave the robber a bag filled with $2,000 in bait money, along with a Bloodhound GPS device. The woman, unaware of the device, then fled in a red minivan that police stopped at 33rd Street and Ridge Avenue after tracing the signal from the GPS device.
The suspect surrendered without resistance, nobody was hurt, and all the cash was recovered.
She now faces bank robbery charges and may be linked to other recent bank robberies.
