Last week mobile navigation provider Telmap announced a contract signed with Singtel, a leading Asian wireless operator with headquarters in Singapore.
“The Asia Pacific market will play an important role in Telmap’s global strategy to lead customized and localized Location Based Services across the globe” said Oren Nissim, CEO of Telmap. “We are happy to partner with SingTel in making location services available through their network.”
“SingTel Xplorer” will be available with all GPS-enabled devices of the operator and will come with both Singapore and Malaysia maps.
In Singapore the turn-by-turn navigation solution comes with real-time traffic data. Traffic data is collected from multiple sources such as the physical locations of SingTel’s mobile cell network base and traffic flow feeds. Data is refreshed every five minutes, resulting in real-time and historical information about traffic flows on most Singapore minor roads.
Singtel had already sold mobile navigation for Blackberry devices in partnership with Wayfinder as well as bundled with HTC phones with Sygic software.
